Great piece, especially the part about not being a DB and keeping the shoulder back. Don't forget to lay off the fish oil pre-surgery to minimize bleeding. Also check out the Game Ready- Compression Ice Machine. This thing will freeze a Yeti.
Just had shoulder surgery on the 14th. Thanks for the timely info!
i had major reconstruction in march and did just what you advised against for the 9 weeks i was in a sling. i'm still having trouble getting the thing to loosen (and stay loose). your WODs have helped tremendously, especially this one!
I had a labrum repair a little over 5 weeks ago and I definitely am experiencing all the tightness Kstar describes. However, I've been icing like crazy and tried some myofascial release on my own (this video would have been even more awesome three weeks ago). I got my PT to check this site out and he's totally pumped about what he saw and the fact that I'm pumped about being supple. I also had good results with the vitalwear (like a game ready), but the only thing I could add would be that I wasn't super happy with the coverage area of the sleeve. It covers the surgery site (basically the outer delt) but not the other trouble areas that Kstar mentions like the pec, trap, and alot of the scapula business. In the end I opted with one of the elasto-gel packs that my PT uses. It has much better coverage, is super cold, is more portable, cheaper to buy, tough as nails, and doesn't require craploads of ice. My ice machine wasn't keeping up, so the money I'll be saving from not having to buy bags of ice will pay for the elasto-gel in a matter of weeks.
Great post – I've had shoulder problems, I can feel the tightness.
Any chance for one on knee surgery?
Kstar, I just had labrum surgery in two places, a/c joint resection, and a partially torn rotator cuff on 4/11. I am going to show this to my PT and surgeon, but the things you mentioned @ 2:50 are killin’ me. Thanks for the ideas – going to turn my lax ball into a pancake if it kills me.
