Episode 278: Tissue Flossing For Better Sliding Surfaces

      Hey Well-Watered Supple Ones,

Today’s mission is to think about dealing with your muscle and tissue stiffness. Muscles are not perfect self-equalizing machines. Some areas feed slack upstream, some sections feed slack downstream. Combine this fact with idea that a muscle group like your hamstrings stabilize and create force at different times and through different ranges during a movement and it’s no wonder certain areas get tacked down. Today’s mwod is about creating a position of emphasis (organized set up) with the band, then moving the involved tissues past through that idealized range. Therapists have long dealt with muscle stiffness related issues. Usually however, we’ve failed to take into consideration the correct position of the joint or the passive accessory motion of the join complex. This is why we use bands. Try flossing with our without the bands and you’ll see what I mean.

Mission: 2 min flossing each leg/ each position.

Test/retest: Anything. Good gawd you were a stiff leopard.
