arched foot in squats v. pistol

Hello,  In many of the videos Kelly stresses keeping the arch intact.  I think this has helped me in squats and deadlifts.

But as I'm working through a pistol progression, I'm having trouble keeping my balance, maybe because I'm in the habit of keeping my foot arched.

Do you recommend keeping the arch in pistol, and learning to balance this way, or is there a different focus/goal for the foot in pistol.  Thanks!
