Welcome to The Starrett System/Movement & Mobility 101 Course.

On the surface, the stunning variety of human movement can appear quite complex. In fact, unraveling all of this miraculous function is more straight-forward than one might think. The Movement & Mobility 101 Course is designed to facilitate seeing past the complexity and variability, to the common root language of fundamental shapes, positioning, and tissue organization that unify all human movement.

Human physiology hasn’t evolved much over the last ten thousand years. The shoulder is still the same. The knee functions in the same way. The movement, fighting, and sport’s traditions of modern humans are clear examples of how human beings have been leveraging motor control and technique to be able to express peak human physiology for thousands of years.

When we combine these practically derived movement models with the modern formal language of strength and conditioning, along with our best understanding of human physiology, we are left a clear pathway towards improved human physical function. Yet most athletes and coaches don’t have a cogent, systems-based approach to evaluate human function that integrates movement theory and mechanics, or reconciles performance with resiliency.

The Movement and Mobility 101 course is designed so that users will be able to quickly identify movement inefficiency and have a dynamic order of operations to know where and what to cue or correct.

The Starrett System is derived directly from thousands of hours of coaching practice and from the experience of coaching thousands of athletes and working with the world’s greatest coaches in settings as diverse as middle school sport programs to top universities, recreational runners to Olympic programs, from moms and dads to elite military units in every branch of the military, from the garage gym to consulting with teams in major professional sports like Premiere League Soccer, the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, Golf, and MMA.

This online course expands upon our live Movement and Mobility course started in 2008. Mobility|Wod has successfully trained over 17,000 athletes, trainers, coaches, and providers in our model. The direct feedback of the thousands of athletes and coaches we have trained, and our ever-evolving clinical and coaching practices have allowed us to continually refine our 101 program to become the principle foundational movement and mobility course on the market today.

This course illuminates common movement errors that can cause musculoskeletal dysfunction and rob you of speed, power, endurance, and strength. Whether you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior, or simply someone wanting to live, this course will teach you how to maintain your body and harness your genetic potential.

Learning Objectives
  • Prevent and rehabilitate common athletic injuries
  • Overhaul your movement habits and express your body's most effective physiology
  • Quickly identify, diagnose, and fix inefficient movement patterns
  • Problem solve for mechanically based pain and dysfunction
  • Fix poor mechanics that rob power, bleed force, and dump torque
  • Unlock reservoirs of athletic capacity you didn't know you had
  • Identify and fix poor movement patterns in children
  • Develop strategies that restore function to your joints and tissues
  • Develop effective individual and group mobility programming

This course is currently only available in English.

Recommended Supplemental Reading Material

Updated and Expanded Edition of Becoming A Supple Leopard by Kelly Starrett

Recommended Tools
  • Two lacrosse balls taped together or a MobilityWOD Gemini
  • A single lacrosse ball
  • A VooDoo Floss Band
  • A larger ball like a softball, MobilityWOD Supernova, or a rubber princess ball like you’d find at a drug store
